“How are you?”

We’re more likely inclined to say “busy” these days as an indication of how we are, rather than how we’re generally going/feeling (which is what “how are you?” used to translate as between me and my friends). I’ve gone from saying “busy” as my usual response to “exhausted” to “what day is it?” to “MOAR WINE PLZ.” Turns out, busy also equals a buildup of the particularly nasty-to-your-health type of stress. The past 12 months have been a very big wake-up call for me on just how I want to be going, and “exhausted” funnily enough isn’t on top of my list.

Some things that have kept me busy include:

  • My day job
  • Writing scripts and research
  • Writing for Geek Girl Authority
  • Consulting
  • Travelling to conventions for Syrinscape to help out the ever effervescent Ben with his kick-ass product
  • Auditions
  • Puppy parenting and going to puppy school
  • Stage combat training
  • Commuting (don’t get me started on why this is listed, it’s 15hrs + a week)
  • Acting

While this list may not seem like much to some (and I kept off the really boring and mundane crap) it has been enough to make my body go “WHOA there” and forced me to re-evaluate what is important in my life, and what isn’t worth my time anymore. Because it turns out, time is precious, and our bodies may be capable of burning the candle at both ends for a while – but it comes at the cost of becoming a wet lumpy waxy mess.

So, what am I going to do about it?

I’m already spending less time doing the stuff I don’t like, which helps. It also means I am consolidating on a bunch of other areas. And it also means, I’m adding something to my list, as opposed to just reducing it. Counter-intuitive? Nope!

Combining both my love of gaming and being a general in-front-of-the-camera-nerd you can now catch me on TWITCH! My Channel CaughtJesster is ready for you to visit. It’s going to be tweaked a little over the next few weeks, but I’ll be broadcasting from there regularly, so come and hang out with me!

Here’s to some quality time together eh? Cheers!
